Elder abuse is the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, as well as financial exploitation, neglect, and confinement of someone 60 years or older.

If you witness elder abuse, you can file a complaint by contacting the New York State Office for the Aging's Elder Abuse Helpline at 1-844-697-3505. You can also visit New York's Adult Protective Services Office.

You can file anonymously if desired. They will ask about the alleged abuse, names of people involved, contact info if available, and other details. Every call is confidential and translation help is available.

If you have a complaint about treatment in a nursing home, you can file a complaint with the New York State Department of Health or call 1-888-201-4563.
