Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Authored By: Gay Men's Health Crisis - Legal Department

SSI is a program for those with limited income and resources. Medicaid (not Medicare) coverage comes automatically with SSI in New York. There is a resource (money in the bank, IRAs, CDs, etc.) limit of $2,000 for singles and $3,000 for couples. If you own your primary residence, it will not count as a resource.
