Free to Be Youth Project (formerly the Peter Cicchino Youth Project)

Primarily serves youth in New York City (all five boroughs), with broader advocacy impact statewide and nationally.

Provides holistic, client-centered legal and social services to homeless and street-involved youth under 25 in New York City, with a focus on LGBTQ+ youth. The project specializes in working with transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming young people, as well as youth impacted by homelessness, family rejection, trafficking, and system involvement. In addition to direct legal representation—including immigration, name changes, public benefits, and criminal defense—the project engages in impact litigation and policy advocacy to advance systemic change for
marginalized youth.
