Who We Are

African Services is a multi-service human rights agency dedicated to assisting immigrants, refugees, and asylees from across the African Diaspora. Programs address the needs of newcomers affected by war, persecution, poverty, and other global health inequities. ASC provides health, housing, legal, social welfare, education, nutrition, and advocacy services to more than 12,000 people in New York City. Staff representing more than 20 countries and speaking over 27 languages support this diverse and growing community.

Our services are:

We are able to accept the following types of cases:

  • Naturalization (citizenship) for eligible green card holders
  • Recognition of citizenship (derivation of citizenship)
  • Adjustment of status (green card) for eligible individuals with a qualifying family
    sponsor, approved asylees or refugees, or those with an approved Form I-360
  • Initial work permit applications
  • Renewals of green cards and work permits (employment authorization documents) for
    eligible individuals
  • Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of certain countries
  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) (renewals only)
  • Petitions for family members abroad by citizens or lawful permanent residents (LPRs)
    (*we can assist with the Form I-130 with USCIS; not consular processing or the Embassy
    interview*)
  • Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for your immigration case file
  • Fee waivers
  • Social Security card applications or requests

We may be able to accept the following types of cases, subject to capacity and/or additional
conditions:

  • VAWA, U visas, and T visas
  • Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (only those who already have a special findings order
    from New York State Family Court)
  • Defensive asylum (limited representation with the initial asylum application only)
  • Motion practice before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (limited
    representation or pro se guidance with certain types of motions only)
  • Standby Guardianship
