Who We Are
The Center for Safety & Change (“the Center”) is a not-for-profit community-based organization founded in 1979 whose mission is to provide critical services and support to women and all victims and survivors of gender-based violence and other crimes while working toward justice by creating social change.
The Center is the sole provider of domestic violence and non-residential services certified by NYS Office of Children and Family Services in Rockland County, NY, is Rockland’s only NYS OVS designated Victim Assistance Program (VAP), and operates the county’s only Rape Crisis Program. In addition, all of the Center’s staff are certified and trained by the NYS Department of Health, all staff and volunteers are certified rape crisis counselors, and the Center is the county’s sole provider of services to victims of human trafficking. Finally, the Center is the largest non-profit provider of immigration legal services in the county, and the largest provider of family law services specifically for victims in the county.
The Center offers a comprehensive continuum of programs and services that are available to all victims, free of charge, regardless of age, citizenship, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, national origin, marital status, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status. The Center’s service are available at ten office locations throughout Rockland County and include, but are not limited to: a 24/7 crisis hotline/textline/webchat, accompaniment, advocacy, crisis intervention, supportive counseling, therapy, transitional housing services, support and empowerment groups, safety planning, legal services and court assistance, information and referrals, children's services, transportation, translation, and community outreach and education. All services are victim-centered, strengths-based, and are tailored to each victim’s specific needs.
