Who We Are
Central American Legal Assistance offers legal advice & representation to immigrants from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and other Central or South American countries, especially to persons fleeing persecution. CALA lawyers defend cases in the NYC immigration courts, detained and non-detained.
In addition to asylum claims, CALA also does student DACA cases, Temporary Protected Status applications, claims for cancellation of removal based on hardship to citizen kids/spouse and various others matters. CALA has a generous sliding scale for fees and some services are free.
CALA allows any immigrant free, same day consultations on the person's immigration status.
How to Get Help
We are offering remote services by phone Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you are a Haitian seeking TPS assistance, or if you do not speak English, please have an English-speaking friend call on your behalf.
Have all immigration papers ready.
