Who We Are

The Kinship Caregiver Law Project is a legal advocacy project within Mobilization for Justice (MFJ).This project is for caregivers who are interested in pursuing legal custody, legal guardianship, and private placement adoptions or other matters that may involve petitioning the Court.

The Kinship Caregiver Law Project will match caregivers with a pro bono attorney who will prepare documents and provide representation. MFJ also provides representation for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status petitions and advice and representation on public assistance matters.

The Kinship Caregiver Law Project hosts legal clinics at which caregivers may meet one-on-one with an attorney to discuss their situation and get advice and counsel.

The Kinship Caregiver Law Project also offers Know Your Rights Workshops. In these workshops, an attorney helps caregivers to understand their rights regarding guardianship, custody, adoption, public benefits and other topics of concern. The project sends an attorney to speak with caregivers at support group meetings, centers, social service agencies, etc.
