Safe Passage Project provides free lawyers to refugee and immigrant children who are facing deportation in New York City and Long Island. No one, not even a child, is entitled to be appointed a lawyer in immigration court. Safe Passage Project corrects this injustice. As a result, our clients win their cases over 90% of the time. Those without lawyers win only 13% of the time.
Safe Passage Project trains and closely mentors pro bono attorneys who volunteer to represent immigrant kids. Most cases involve helping youth apply for asylum and/or Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, which involves representation in a state family court and a visa petition before the immigration agency.
