A mediator helps people understand each other and try to reach agreement. The New York Court website has a few ways to find a mediator:

  1. A list of free or low-cost nonprofit organizations by county. These are called "Community Dispute Resolution Centers." They can help with:

    • Custody, Parenting Plan, Child Support and other Family Issues
    • Housing Matters
    • Financial and Contractual Disagreements
    • Juvenile Justice
    • School-based Services
    • Other

  2. Local court staff who can help connect you to the Community Dispute Resolution Center near you.

  3. A list of mediators who charge money for their services. And questions to ask before you decide to work together.
