This resource provides answers to the most common questions we are asked by those thinking of applying to be a LiveHelp volunteer.

To be a LiveHelp Operator, you must currently enrolled in law school or have graduated from law school.  You must have access to a strong and reliable internet connection.

LiveHelp Operators are expected to commit to at least one, 3-hour shift on a weekly basis, for at least 50 hours.

No. Most operators work usually 3-9 hours per week.

Due to the significant investment in training and administration for each volunteer, we can only accept volunteers willing to commit to at least 50 hours of pro bono service as a LiveHelp Operator.  Affidavits of service will only be completed for a minimum of 50 hours of service.

Volunteers work from their own computer, in any location where they can reliably access the internet. All training and work is completed remotely.

Our evening shifts (6-9PM) are the most popular shift.  You are welcome to apply and request only evening shifts, but that will make it more difficult for you to be accepted because there are so many applicants requesting these spots.  LiveHelp is not online over the weekend.

We currently only have the capacity to chat in English and Spanish.  Please let us know in the application if you are comfortable chatting in Spanish as well as English.  If you have conversational Spanish, this is a great opportunity to learn more Spanish legal terms.  Your conversational English and Spanish will be tested.
