If you're transgender, nonbinary, or intersex, New York has strong laws to protect you when you get health care. This means doctors and insurance companies cannot treat you badly because of who you are.
You have the right to get:
- Emergency care
- Regular doctor visits
- Special care that helps your body match who you are inside
You can get health care even if you're under 18 and your parents don't agree.
If your insurance says they won't pay, you can appeal their decision (ask them to review it again).
New York also protects people who come from another state to get care. If someone mistreats or won't help you, advocates can help you complain and get the care you need.
