If your child takes a school bus in New York City, sometimes things can go wrong, like a late bus, a missed pick-up, or the wrong stop.
When you experience problems, you have options:
- You can check the NYC School Bus App
- Contact the bus company directly, or
- Contact the Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT)
Always ask for a complaint number and keep a record.
If your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), lives in a shelter, or is in foster care, they may also qualify for MetroCards, prepaid rideshare, or a transportation refund if buses don’t show up.
If the problem continues, talk to your school’s Transportation Coordinator or district Transportation Liaison.
Advocates for Children offers detailed tips on how to get help and make sure your child can get to school safely and on time.
