Starting April 28, 2025, if you get cash assistance in NYC, you have to do "work activities." This means getting a job, looking for work, going to school, or proving you can't work.
If you don't follow these rules, you might get a "sanction." This means your benefits will be reduced or stopped.
The guide explains what to do if you miss an appointment, how to show you had "good cause" for missing it, and how to prove you should be exempt from work rules because of health problems, caring for young children, domestic violence, or other reasons.
If you need help with these rules, call Legal Services NYC at 917-661-4500.
