New York State has a program called CCAP (Child Care Assistance Plan) that can help you pay for child care.
How do I qualify?
You might qualify if:
- your income is not too high* and you:
- get public benefits or
- work at least ten hours per week or
- are looking for work or
- go to school (including job training programs)
- and your child is younger than 13 or has special needs.
Do I make too much money to qualify?
The income limits to qualify for CCAP (Child Care Assistance Plan) depend on the size of your family:
- $77,226 for a family of 2
- $95,396 for a family of 3
- $113,567 for a family of 4

Can I choose who takes care of my child?
You can hire someone you know—like a family member, neighbor, or friend—to take care of your child or children. The state can help pay if this person signs up to become a "legally exempt provider." You need to fill out the forms together. call/visit your local DSS office for the forms
How do I apply?
You need to contact your local Department of Social Services office and ask for a “child care assistance” application. Once you submit the application, in most cases, you should hear back within 45 days. If your application is approved, it will take approximately 6-8 weeks to begin receiving payment.
