Your landlord can start a court case to evict you if you break the rules in your lease. Before they take you to court, the landlord should:

  • tell you in writing what rule you are breaking and
  • give you time to stop.

Check your lease. If you are following the lease, write to your landlord to deny the accusation.

Include photos, documents, or other evidence to show you:

  • are not breaking the rules or
  • stopped breaking the rules

If the landlord starts an eviction case in court, the judge will decide if you are breaking the lease. Show the judge your evidence. You can be evicted only if the judge agrees with your landlord.
